In this music, the two pianos are thought independently of each other and from there they may or may not go together.
The nature of these relationships is reflected in the architecture of the composition.
The outline of this architecture is determined by stable music, as indicated at piano I. This contrasts with the unstable, fleeting music of piano II.
The contrast therefore consists in a difference between a firmly established music (stasis) and an evolving, floating music.

In deze muziek zijn de twee piano’s onafhankelijk van elkaar gedacht en vandaaruit gaan zij wél of juist niet samen.
De aard van deze verhoudingen is neergelegd in de architectuur van de compositie.
De omtrek van deze architectuur wordt bepaald door bestendige muziek, zoals aangegeven bij piano I. Hiermee contrasteert de onbestendige, vluchtige muziek van piano II.
Het contrast bestaat dus in een verschil tussen een ›gesteldheid‹ (stasis) van de muziek en een zich ontwikkelende, beweeglijke muziek.
